Senate Republicans Vote No On Providing Rural Hospitals Emergency Generators

Atlanta, Ga. — Wednesday, January 28, Republicans voted against providing critically-needed emergency generators to rural hospitals.

Led by Minority Whip Kim Jackson (D-Stone Mountain), Senate Bill 170 would have created a grant program to provide rural hospitals funding to purchase and install backup generators to be used in case of emergency.

“Senate Bill 170 is a straightforward measure to help rural hospitals continue providing care for their patients during the worst of times. What is controversial about generators for hospitals? Rural communities are already struggling with health care access after so many hospital closures and a lack of adequate resources,” Minority Whip Kim Jackson said. “This bill would have at least helped the ones whose doors are still open to keep operating during natural disasters. How do you not rally around that?”

Senator Kim Jackson is available for comment.
