Sen. Minority Leader Jones II Endorses Laura Murvartian in SD-48
Jones II: “A Fighting Senator Who Will Make SD-48 Proud.”
Atlanta, Ga. — Senate Minority Leader Harold Jones II endorsed Laura Murvartian in Senate District 48 today, putting his effort behind the remarkable candidate who has made waves in the Senate’s top battleground seat.
“I am thrilled to endorse Laura for SD-48. Her life story shows the incredible promise of this country: her family immigrated to the United States when she was 8 years old, and now, one generation later, Laura has raised her own beautiful family, worked at major Fortune 500 companies, led nonprofits, and learned the economy’s nuts and bolts at the Federal Reserve. Laura fought for and won the American Dream, and now, she’s going to do the same for families across SD-48,” Minority Leader Jones II said.
“I am honored to have the endorsement of Senate Minority Leader Harold Jones II,” Murvartian said. “Leader Jones is a tireless advocate for the people of Georgia, and I hope to join him under the Gold Dome to fight for hardworking families in SD-48 and across Georgia. I look forward to working with him and the rest of the Senate Democratic Caucus to flip this seat to serve this district.”
Leader Jones’ endorsement follows endorsements from Sens. Kim Jackson, Elena Parent, Nikki Merritt, Nan Orrock, Georgia Lt. Governor candidate Josh McLaurin, and many other Senate and House Democrats. Several major civil rights, labor, and environmental organizations have also endorsed Murvartian.
“It’s clear who has the momentum in this race: it’s Laura Murvartian and Democrats. That’s because she has what it takes to flip this seat, and working together, that’s exactly what we’re going to do,” Leader Jones II said.
Senate District 48 is Senate Democrats’ top target. Democrats feel optimistic because the current Senator has represented Donald Trump and the MAGA extremists in the Georgia Republican Party, not the people of SD-48. As a Senator, he voted to kill the first statewide civil rights bill in Georgia history, supported book bans, opposed expanding affordable health insurance, and refused to protect seniors from devastating cuts.
“Stopping Donald Trump and other out of touch MAGA extremists means flipping every flippable seat. If Democrats work together, we’re going to elect a fighting Senator who will make SD-48 proud,” Leader Jones II said.
