GOP Strips 500K More Georgians of Health Insurance
Sen. Minority Leader Jones II: Enormous Failure of GOP Leadership
Atlanta, Ga. — Sen. Minority Leader Harold V. Jones II released the following statement on the GOP stripping 500,000 Georgians of health insurance:
“Georgia Senate Democrats spent the last two years fighting to help Georgians survive the GOP killing ACA subsidies, including putting forward two state funded alternatives: Jason Esteves introduced SB 192 in 2025 and Sen. Josh McLaurin offered SB 379 in 2026. Republicans gave neither bill a hearing.
“The GOP decided they’d make things worse in February by killing Medicaid expansion. Again. Now 500,000 Georgians have lost insurance, more rural hospitals face a critical risk of extinction, and we still haven’t expanded Medicaid.
“Republicans will blame Washington, Democrats, ‘the woke left,’ and any other consultant created boogeyman they can sell on conservative media. The truth is this: Republicans failed Georgians with a do-nothing decade of insufficient action. The GOP’s ‘Georgia Last’ priorities means $1 billion per day for Trump’s war of choice — but almost 1 million Georgians get no insurance because we can’t afford to help. The party of so-called ‘personal responsibility’ must own this enormous failure of leadership. Georgia, it’s time for a change.”
The Senate Minority Leader is available for comment.
